Olympic Fundraising

The London summer Olympics are happening soon so use this world class event to your Team Diabetes fundraising advantage! Here are some ideas to get your Olympic fundraising started.

• Host a “gold medal game” or opening ceremony party at your house.

• Structure your donation levels on the medals – gold, silver and bronze.

• Host your own mini Olympics as a fundraising event which has your friends and family competing against each other in fun games in teams or as individuals. Have a minimum suggested donation and include other fundraising activities within the event. For example, if you have a croquet tournament and it’s a close race to the wicket, offer an extra stroke for a twoonie donation. Or if you’re playing beach volleyball, sell extra serves for a loonie.

• Host a dinner party where each guest brings a dish representative of a participating country along with a minimum suggested donation. Assign countries to attendees to ensure you have a good variety.

• Have an Olympic medal “pool” whereby people make a donation and then guess who will be the top 5 countries in the medal count and how many of each medal they will win. Award a prize for the closest guess at a closing ceremony party. Give a bonus prize to whoever is closest to guessing Canada’s medal count.

Just like training for your chosen Team Diabetes event, you need to stay focused and have a plan that takes you through to the finish line!
