November is Diabetes Awareness Month!
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day is November 14th so with the extra media attention diabetes will soon be garnering, knowledge about the impact of diabetes is sure to be on the rise amongst your donors. Leverage Diabetes Awareness Month to raise more funds!
Integrate key messages and facts from the Canadian Diabetes Association website into your donor asks and theme your Team Diabetes fundraising web page, facebook profile, donor e-mail updates or blog accordingly. This will further reinforce why their support is urgently needed and why the challenge you have taken on will make a difference in so many lives at home, across the country and even around the world.
World Diabetes Day marks the birthday of Frederick Banting and 2011 is the 90th anniversary of the discovery of insulin so host a virtual party and encourage your friends, family and colleagues to make a donation on November 14th in honour of this great Canadian and to mark this incredible milestone! Did you know… in 2010 readers of McLean’s magazine crowned Banting and Best (co-discoverers of insulin) Canada’s greatest innovators!
Or have an in person “Banting Birthday Bash” and integrate party elements that will increase the funds raised. Ideas could include a diabetes quiz that has a small fee to enter and where the individual or team with the most correct answers win prizes, have a live and silent auction, or sell balloons for $5, $10, $20 or more depending on the value of the “birthday gift” that may await them when they pop it. The possibilities are endless!
November is also a month when staff holiday party planning is taking place so now is the time to approach the organizing committee about adding a fundraising component to the event. If already in place, ask if the Canadian Diabetes Association via your Team Diabetes fundraising campaign can be the beneficiary or co-beneficiary. The season of giving will soon be here so don’t be shy about championing a cause that is important to you! There’s a good chance they know someone with diabetes too.
These are just a few of the many ways you can turn what you love to do into donations in support of a cause that is important to you. Looking for more ideas?
