Staying Active During the Holidays
Plan Ahead
The holiday season can involve lots of traveling which can cause conflict with your training schedule. If you are going out of town, try to look up local running or walking routes in the area or make sure your hotel has an accessible gym. Planning ahead will allow you get have some options so you are ready for anything plus being prepared helps you stay committed to your schedule and goals.
Use Every Opportunity
It is important to note that there are many seasonal events that don’t stop for the cold! Take some time to look up and register for local events, like a Santa Shuffle or Reindeer Dash. When participating in these events, try not to be focused on setting a Personal Best, but concentrate on form and have fun! Please review our previous issue of Pacesetter for helpful tips on Running in the Winter.
The holidays are also a great time to catch up with friends and family on the phone. While chatting away, try and stand up or walk around if you have a cordless phone. Every little bit of activity you can squeeze in during this time is important!
Get Your Family Involved
Any activity is better than no activity so get the family out of the house and active as frequently as possible. Try a walk around the neighbourhood after dinner, skating, snowshoeing or just running around and playing in the snow!
