Fundraising Tip β Impact and Diversity
Fundraising with Impact
When you fundraise in your community, you are also raising important awareness about diabetes
in the process. If you want to increase the educational impact of your fundraising activities even
more, consider these ideas!
Photojournalism Fundraiser
If you and/or friends enjoy photography, take photos that capture the stories and impact of
diabetes. Choose the best photos from the bunch and approach a local clinic, business or
community space to display the photos for a month. To kick off the show, sell tickets to an
opening reception that includes refreshments and a silent auction whereby people bid on their
favourite photos. Bid sheets could remain for the duration of the show for any photos not sold that
evening. The winning bidders would then collect their photos at the end of the month.
Multicultural Potluck
Invite friends and family members to cook their favourite, healthy national dishes for a
multicultural potluck fundraiser. Sell tickets to the dinner and enjoy an evening of great food
and diabetes awareness! You could also include a silent auction featuring items that reflect the
country of origin of the potluck dishes and a diabetes quiz with small prizes for right answers.
People of Aboriginal, Hispanic, Asian, South Asian and African descent are at a higher risk for type
2 diabetes so this is a great way to get people talking about how diabetes affects everyone, and in
particular these groups. Itβs also an opportunity to highlight the importance of eating well and living a
healthy, active life like you are doing by being a Team Diabetes participant!
