Eat Well. Be Active. Be Yourself!
Diabetes GPS In Action during Diabetes Awareness Month
Eat Well. Be Active. Be Yourself! and Eating Away from Home are just some of the latest resources piloted in various Association events during Diabetes Awareness Month.
From Surrey, B.C., to St. John’s, Nfld., we’ve received tremendous amount of enthusiasm from Association staff, volunteers and attendees for the innovative, GPS-branded interactive wheel, brochures and hands-on learning tools.
The purpose of the Diabetes GPS project is to provide culturally appropriate information to the Chinese, South Asian and African-Caribbean population to help make it easier for them to live well with diabetes. One of the overarching goals of the Diabetes GPS is to make learning fun and interactive. To start the conversation, event attendees spin our prize wheel and answer a skill- testing question. The reward is one of our carefully selected learning tools that are designed to complement information brochures for people living with diabetes. We provide lunch bags and ‘chillable’ snack containers with our Eating Away from Home resource in an effort to encourage people living with diabetes to eat healthy meals while they are at work, at school or wherever they are away from home.
We are also working diligently to update our website, diabetesgps.ca, to include new content themes, as well as launching our Urdu version of the site by the end of 2012.
Based on excellent feedback from mobile users like you, we have made improvements to our mobile application, which is now available for download at Android, Blackberry and iTunes stores.. Last but not least, we’re adding two new resources to the Diabetes GPS suite Foot care and Diabetes, and Diabetes Education this spring.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Diabetes GPS project in the coming months!
