Join a Club or Clinic!
Some of the most common reasons people use for not getting out for their run/walk/cycle workout is that their schedule was too busy, that they had trouble getting motivated, it was too cold or that they couldn’t decide what to do. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it comes to achieving our goals but fortunately, there is a solution!
If you find yourself using any of these excuses for not getting out even once a week, joining an organized clinic or training group is a great way to overcome these obstacles. After all, wouldn’t it be nice to know that you’re right on track at any given moment for both your fundraising AND your training? You bet it would!
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with handing over the reins for at least some of your training. Imagine that every Tuesday at 6:00 pm your route is prepared for you and there is a group to train with and motivate you. Or that every Sunday morning others are there to keep you going, whatever weather Mother Nature throws at you. All you have to do is show up and walk, run or bike! No more worrying about what route is flatter or heading out by yourself down those dark side streets in the middle of winter.
Joining a group lead by an experienced trainer offers the camaraderie of shared goals and helps build your confidence as the event draws nearer. It can also be reassuring knowing that someone will be checking in with you regularly to ensure you are on track with your training. The extra guidance will also help you avoid some common training mistakes and make your training that much more fun and stress free.
Check out your local running/walking/cycling stores and clubs to see what’s available in your area. Most offer clinics that align with the major Canadian marathons and cycling events.
