Keeping Your Training Interesting!
It’s easy to fall into a routine that although comfortable and familiar, can become a bit boring over time. Don’t let this happen to your training! Here are a few tips to keep it interesting.
Change it up
Adding a bit of variety to your training can go a long way to keeping it fun while still getting you to your goal. Try that great piece of new cardio equipment they have at your local rec centre or gym on a wet and windy day. Or on an easy day, go for a spin around town on your bicycle. Instead of going on the road, hit the trails or beach for a bit more of a challenge.
Explore
Over the course of training for 4 months you will get to know your neighbourhood pretty well. Try a change of scenery for your long run, ride or walk and check out the sites of a nearby town. Time it so that you can have your post workout meal or snack at a restaurant or cafe you have always wanted to try. To ensure you know where you’re going and get the mileage in that you want, plan your route and print out a map to take with you using mapmyrun.com or other online tool.
Tune In
If you listen to music, get a friend to make up a surprise mix or two. You’ll discover some new tunes you may not have listened to before and will have something extra to look forward to.
Choose a Destination
For practical reasons, we usually do a loop for our training route. Try something different and make your finish point the house of a friend or family member. Plan a brunch, lunch or dinner visit upon your arrival and catch up on your latest news. Have a small thank you gift waiting for them back at your house that you can give them when they drop you off.
