Back to Basics!
Begin by asking yourself ‘Who do I know?’. Starting with your personal network is a great circle of potential donors. From there, they can connect you with their personal network and already you’ve doubled the number of potential donors! Family members and co-workers can be your biggest supporters if you just ask. Once you’ve created a list of potential donors, begin to reach out to the individuals in personal way. This could be by giving them a call and letting them know what you are doing and what you are raising money for. You could send them an e-mail, a card or even take them out for dinner!
The more you can connect with your network in a personalized manner, the more likely they are to feel connected to your cause. Once you’ve reached out, keep them informed about your fundraising progress and let them know how they’ve helped. Below are some age-old ways to fundraise that will help you reach your goal!
20/20: Ask 20 people to donate $20 each. This could be increased to 30/30, 40/40 etc
Donate $1 a day or per week: Ask everyone you know to donate this small amount and it could quickly add up.
Bottle drive: Ask everyone you know to donate their bottles/cans and cash them in for money.
Car wash: Wash people’s cars and charge them a fee for it. Different sized vehicles and services (e.g. vacuuming) have different prices.
Sponsor per km’s: Ask people to put in money per km you are doing. e.g. $10 per km for the half marathon is over $200!
Coupon book: Ask businesses if they will give a special deal on their products or services. Once you have enough businesses, put this together in a coupon book and sell the book.
